Rural Tourism

With affordable flights from many places in the world a lot of visitors come to Eastern Europe but very few stray outside major cities such as Budapest and Prague. In spite of major changes in the past 20 years there are still many intriguing and unspoilt places to be found off the beaten track. In Eastern Europe you can find:-

  • Lake Balaton in Hungary, which is Europe's largest freshwater lake.
  • Mountain ranges in Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia and elsewhere, which provide a full range of winter and summer sporting activities.
  • Many geothermal spa resorts in Hungary with natural healing and wellness facilities.
  • Several wine growing regions producing pleasantly interesting indigenous wines generally unknown outside the region.
  • Rare plant and animal species not found elsewhere in the world providing interesting bio-tourism possibilities.
  • Villages which still retain strong elements of ancient cultural folklore.
  • Interesting architecture in provincial cities in the region. For example, Kecskemét (Hungary), Brno (Czech Republic) and Zamosc (Poland).

Promotion Improvement Project

As infrastructure develops throughout the region more visitors are expected in the long-term future. However a major problem is that promotion of tourism facilities in the English language is still generally poor. With that in mind we are launching a  new project in Spring 2009 aimed at improving existing online and printed promotional material.

With more visitors searching for holidays on the internet, there would be a much better chance of opportunities being found, a well as improving the long-term image of local tourist businesses.
